A People on the Edge

Nestled within the unforgiving wilderness of the Copper Canyons of Chihuahua, México, a tribe of indigenous people known as the Tarahumara (or Rarámuri),  strive to preserve their rich cultural heritage amidst a desperate struggle to survive and thrive.

Why do the Tarahumara need you?

Heartbreaking Child Mortality Rates

Nearly 50% of Tarahumara children die before the age of 10.

Very Limited Access to Medical Care

Most Tarahumara communities live more than a full day's travel from any medical care, often without access to vehicles.

Widespread Food Insecurity

Drought and poor land use practices hoisted upon the people by outside parties have greatly reduced (and in some areas devastated) the Rarámuri's ability to grow the food they need to survive and thrive.

Population Decline

Once numbering over 1 million, the Tarahumara population has declined to an estimated 70,000 individuals today.

Who We Are

Our History

Our History

Our History

For more than 30 years, Guacayvo has been home to countless Rarámuri families, nestled within the numerous, vast canyons of the Copper Canyon of Chihuahua, México. This resilient community is supported by El Albergue, which provides food, shelter, and education to nearly 100 children. Building upon this foundation, Kali Tibukuach, The House of Mercy, was established as a clinic dedicated to complementing and strengthening the traditional healing practices of the Rarámuri people.

Our mission is to provide compassionate, community-centered healthcare and outreach that respects and integrates the ancestral knowledge and traditions of Rarámuri healers with modern medicine.

Through collaboration, education, and access to essential medical resources, we strive to enhance the health and well-being of the many Guacayvo families while honoring their cultural heritage and wisdom.
